Thomas Stillwell and Eliza Fox Huntley and their three children arrived in Grafton Township in Northwest Illinois in the year 1846, acquiring land and settling north of a future village that would be incorporated in 1872.

On September 5 of 1851, the owners of the Chicago and Galena Railroad (which became the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, and later, Union Pacific Railroad) hosted an excursion trip  --  marking the maiden voyage of a rail line to the northwest -- to Huntley Station.  That was the beginning of what is now Huntley, Illinois.  The railroad was critical to the economic development of Huntley, "because it provided the means of sending agriculture products to the Chicago market and led to Huntleys preeminence as a dairy center." (from Wikipedia)

Huntley, Illinois grew slowly and steadily until government officials adopted an aggressive development strategy; Huntley is now a rapidly growing village that resides partly in McHenry and Kane counties in northwest Illinois.  As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Huntley was credited with about  5700 residents; In 2009, that figure tripled to roughly 23,000!  The village encompasses approximately 14 square miles, and is probably best known for two things: its Prime Outlets Mall and Sun City Retirement Community (likely the largest in the Midwest...)

But Huntley offers much more than that...  Although a gazebo, and a full brick-paved street (Woodstock St.) and 50s-style diner (The Huntley Dairy Mart) harken back to simpler and slower days, Huntley offers myriad retail, dining, banking and other, more modern opportunities along the Route 47 corridor, as well as festivals (try the Turkey Testicle Festival, held the day before Thanksgiving at Parkside Pub) and other events that celebrate the down-home friendliness of a proud and long-established Northwestern Illinois city.  Come visit us in Huntley, "The Friendly Village with Country Charm."
